Owosso middle and high school competed today in the Shiawassee County Cross Country Championships. Our middle school girls ran the first race of the day, finishing 3 girls in the top 6! Josie Jenkinson (2nd place), Libby Summerland (5th place), and Natalie Summerland (6th place) all had great races and provided a glimpse into the bright future of Owosso XC.  Our high school girls ran next, finishing 3rd overall and saw two runners finish with all-county honors. Emma Johnson (7th place, 1st team all-county) broke the 21:00 barrier with a time of 20:54, and looks to shave a little more time next week at regionals in an attempt to finish in the top 15 and qualify for the state finals a week later. Emma Perry (11th place, 2nd team all-county) ran a season record 21:48. Next up was our middle school boys who saw Matthew Shattuck run a personal best 12:17 and finish 7th overall. Finally, our high school boys rounded out the day with a 4th place finish without the points from our top runner, Jorden Sowash, who took the day off to prep for next week's regional finals. Mason Collard ran a great race and earned a 1st team all-county 4th place finish with a time of 17:12. Mason will join Jorden in their quest for a 2nd consecutive birth to the state finals next weekend at Delta College. Every high school athlete (JV and varsity) that ran today except one earned a season record time with the following athletes earning career best times as well: Paige Box, Claudia Drake, Emma Johnson, Grace Perry, Camden Barnhill, Andrew Chapko, Ethan DeMeules, Corey Gates, Joseph Jungerheld, and Ben Welz.
