Cross Country was forced to create a first ever Pre-Regional meet this season to limit the amount of runners in a race due to COVID. As a result, in order to qualify to run at the Regional meet next weekend, runners must qualify either as a team or individually. The top 3 teams automatically and the next 7 fastest athletes in each race move on. The day began with our Owosso boys' team finishing in 6th place, but with Jack Smith snagging an individual qualifying spot to run next weekend. Jack ran a personal best time of 19:09 on his way to a 24th place overall. Andrew Chapko and Corey Gates were the 8th and 9th next fastest runners, just short of qualifying.
The next race saw our girls earn a 5th place finish with two girls making the cut to run at Regionals. Libby Summerland finished 11th overall and ran a personal best 21:11, while Emma Johnson was able to finish 19th overall with a 21:52. Unfortunately, Emma Perry came up 1 place short of qualifying after giving everything she had and running a season best 22:15.
Although we have three athletes competing next weekend, we also just watched the final races of six of our runners. It is always so bittersweet to watch our seniors run their final race. We are so proud of all the work that they put in over the past several years and it has been so amazing watching each and every one of them grow as both runners and people. We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to coach Emily Summerland, Emma Perry, Lauren Skinner, Claudia Drake, Ben Welz, and Andrew Chapko. Thank you for everything seniors...you are all amazing and will be truly missed!
