The Trojans returned to Fenton for day 2 of the Genesee County Meet where only the top 16 swimmers advanced from Friday. The County Meet is a very fast meet with 11 teams attending. Making the top 16 in an event requires a great swim. Most events started with over 35 swimmers and some events had over 50 swimmers racing on Friday for a chance at the top 16 places.

After fantastic swims on Friday the Trojan came back and turned in amazing performances. In the 5 years Owosso has attended the County Meet this was the best overall swimming Coach Murray has seen from his team at the meet. Many of the Owosso girls they missed the conference meet last year and had not raced in a two day meet in almost two year. Despite the time off from a championship style meet every single swim was a best time on Saturday with many swimmers moving up multiple places. For every swimmer to go a best time is very rare and the girls really raced hard.

Going into the meet Owosso and Davison looked to be very evenly matched. After Friday’s swims Davison held an 11-point lead. It would be up to the Trojans to move up in placing to gain enough points to take 4th place behind powerhouses Grand Blanc, Fenton and Flint Powers who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The Trojans trailed for most of the meet before taking the lead after the breaststroke by only 3 points. Whichever team placed better in the 400 free relay would take 4th at the meet. Owosso had a very strong relay and pulled away to place 3rd and secure 4th place at the meet.

The Trojans turned in some very fast swims that qualified them for important meets where the swimmers have to make a qualifying time. The 400 free relay team of Kate Grinnell, Britney Aurara-Erazo, Amanda Brainerd and Macy Irelan qualified for the State Finals. Macy Irelan qualified for the State Finals in the 100 backstroke and butterfly. Amanda Brainerd qualified for the MISCA meet in the breaststroke.
