Owosso traveled to Corunna for the second time in 3 days to compete against 7 powerhouse teams at the Corunna Cavalier Classic: Okemos, Mt. Pleasant, Flushing, Lapeer in the large school division and Corunna, Lake Fenton, Chesaning and Owosso in the small school division. Even though the meet was scored as a true team invite where every athlete in an event scores points depending on the number of athletes in each event, with only 12 athletes able to compete on Friday, we did not concern ourselves with scoring as many points as possible. Therefore, even though we finished 4th in the small school division, we could have scored a lot more points if we would have maximized our entries. Instead we were more concerned with the performances we got in events that we did compete in. In that regard, we had some great things to celebrate.

Our pole vaulting duo of Libby Summerland and Claire Agnew continued to shine all day long. Libby finished 3rd in pole vault, matching her personal best vault of 9'0" and coming up JUST short of a school record 9'6". She also cut nearly 8 full seconds off her time in the 800 on her way to a second place finish of 2:28.98. Finally, she chased down two girls as the anchor of her 4x400m relay (with teammates Claire Agnew, Emma Johnson, and Michaela Nichols) to earn a 3rd place finish (4:42.38).

Claire had just as big of a day, also coming away with three medals. Besides the 4x400, she finished one place and only 6" behind Libby in Pole Vault with her personal best vault of 8'6", becoming just the 7th girl in Owosso history to go at least that high. Claire also had a great race in the 400m dash where she earned a 3rd place medal and a personal best 1:07.1.

Our next highest finish came from hurdler Nevaeh Mishler, who continued to cut time off of her PR on her way to a 4th place finish (18.96). Our last two medal winners of the evening were Alaina Poggiali and Michaela Nichols. Alaina tossed the shot put 26'3.75" while Michaela set a personal best mark of 13'3" in long jump earning both girls 6th place finishes. We also had two more personal best finishes on the day. First, Kaitlyn Cummings jumped 4'3" in high jump, VERY nearly clearing 4'6" minutes later. Finally, Emma Johnson was able to shave another 10 seconds off of her best mile time by running 6:22.61.

I am very proud of the efforts of all of our girls today. Their hard work is paying off as we enter championship season. Next Thursday we compete in the FML Championship and the following Friday is Regionals.
