Owosso girls' track and field traveled to Corunna today to compete in the Flint Metro League Championship. All 12 teams in the FML were at the meet and competed against each other, and afterward the results were separated so the stars and stripes divisions of the league each had a champion overall and in each event. Owosso was able to finish 10th overall, and 6th in the starts division. However, on a day when competition was fierce, our nine competing girls stepped up and nearly every single girl had a personal best result in at least one event. To receive All-Conference honors, an athlete needed to finish in the top 2 of their their division today. Owosso was able to have two individual athletes and a relay finish with those honors. The first girl to earn those honors was Claire Agnew. Claire set a new personal record and finished 2nd in pole vault with a vault of 9'0, only losing because she made the height on her 3rd attempt while her competition made it on her 2nd attempt. Also, with that vault she is only 4" from the school record. Libby Summerland finished 3rd in pole vault and just missed out on All-Conference honors in that event, but she wasn't done for the day. She came back with a 2nd place finish in the 800. Finally, she joined Claire, Emma Johnson, and Michaela Nichols on the 2nd place All-Conference 1600m relay team. In the most exciting race of the day, Claire closed a big gap, passing Clio in the final 50 meters to earn the honors. The relay team cut an amazing 11 seconds off of their season best time!

These were the best places of the day, but there were other results that were just as impressive. On top of doing her part in the 4x400, Michaela was able to earn PRs in both the 100 and long jump. She had a huge day! Emma and Claire were also able to earn PRs in their other events (the mile and 400), respectively. Alaina Poggiali flexed on her competion on her way to a 3rd place finish in shot put. At the beginning of the meet, I told Cass Gillett that she was going to throw a PR in discus by 3 feet because of the beautiful weather and calm winds we finally had. Well, she didn't think that was enough as she launched a nearly 6 foot personal record on her way to a 7th place league finish. That went along with the PR she had already earned in shot put earlier in the day. Courtney Lott also had a great showing as she had a double PR in both long jump and the 300 hurdles. Finally, not only did Kaitlyn Cummings run her personal best 100m dash, she also managed a 4th place high jump finish. It is also worth noting that even though results don't show what really happened in the race, Nevaeh Mishler was killing it in the 100 hurdles and looked to be on her way to a 2nd place All-Conference finish when she tripped over the final hurdle. She continues to get faster and is turning into a very promising young athlete.

We are off until we return to Corunna for Regionals next Friday. Full results can be found here: https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/MeetResults.aspx?Meet=412459&show=all
