Flint Metro League Track and Field Championship

Game Date
May 11, 2022

Owosso Track and Field traveled to Goodrich on Wednesday to compete in the Flint Metro League Championship Meet. Even though all 12 FML teams competed against each other, the results were split into divisions where there was a "Stars" champion and a "Stripes" champion. Owosso finished in 5th place in the Stars division overall, but had many awesome performances.

Claire Agnew won 1st team all conference honors by winning pole vault. Not only did she tie her PR height of 10'6", it marked the first time going back to the beginning of last season that she beat Brandon's Allison Shelton, who is currently seeded 2nd in the state, just 3 inches above Claire. Claire used this performance to spring board her to her best meet of the year by far, as she set personal best marks in both the 400 and 200.

We had two athletes that were able to finish with 2nd team all conference honors. First, Kyle Bermudez had a huge race in the 100m hurdles. Kyle went into the race seeded 6th in the stars division and 10th overall and came out with a 2nd place finish in the stars division and 3rd place overall finish, cutting off more than a half of a second from her best time!

Also earning 2nd team all conference honors with a massive 9 foot PR in discus was Peyton Spicer. Peyton was also seeded 6th at the beginning of the day before her amazing throws. This puts Peyton in the top 5 of the region to go along with her top spot in high jump.

Finally, we had three 3rd team all conference results, all by Libby Summerland. Libby had a big day in pole vault, finishing 3rd with a personal best vault of 10'. Not only was that vault 3rd in the conference, it was also the 6th highest vault in the state this season! She followed that up by turning a 7th seed 100m dash into a 3rd place finish, beating her best time by .32 seconds. Finally, she ran a great 400m dash, also managing to finish in 3rd place.

Only 9 days from regionals, we are seeing great results and are in a position to do great things. Our invitational at Davison on Friday will be our last opportunity to practice before putting it all out there in Williamston next Friday.
