Kirt Skinner '71
Inducted 2018
Kirt Skinner ‘71 - The 1971 District Basketball Champions were led by three-sport standout, Kirt Skinner. “Skinny” was a respected and feared member of the Trojans’ basketball, baseball and football programs. As a gridder, Skinner twice earned All Big-9 honors. As a senior, Kirt was selected as a first-team member of both the offensive and defensive squads.
Despite his success on the gridiron, Kirt’s major claim to fame was as a cager on the hardwood for the Trojans. Skinner still holds eight scoring records for the Trojans, including most points scored in a career (1,088), most points scored in a season (587), and most points scored in a game (51). Kirt’s game of 51 came in front of a packed OHS gymnasium in a district semifinal against Swartz Creek. Owosso would go on to win the game 109-100, and the district championship game later that week.
At the time, Kirt’s basketball coach, and fellow Hall of Fame Member, Don Gray said, “He is everything a coach could hope for in a basketball player. He’s just a tremendous athlete”.
