Greater Lansing Honor Roll Meet of Champions (Girls' Track Results)
Date Posted: Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Four Owosso girls qualified for and competed in the Greater Lansing Honor Roll Meet of Champions in Waverly on Tuesday. In order to compete, athletes must be in the top 10 for field events and 16 for running events in the entire Greater Lansing area. That comes out to nearly 40 teams from all four divisions, including schools like East Lansing, Okemos, Holt, etc. Just making it into the meet is a huge honor. As always, Owosso pole vault stole the show. Out of 12 girls competing (more than 10 athletes competed due to ties), Owosso brought 3 (25% of the entire field!). In addition, Kyle Bermudez was the only freshman in the field, finishing in 9th place with a vault of 8'6". Kyle only missed competing in the 100m hurdles by 2 places as well.
Libby Summerland also competed in pole vault as 1 of only 3 sophomores. Libby's 10' vault lifted her to a 4th place finish. She also qualified in the 400m dash, where she finished in 6th place with a time of 1:01.92.
Rounding out the pole vaulters was Claire Agnew, who matched her personal best height of 10'6" on her way to a 2nd place finish! As the 1st and 3rd place vaulters are both seniors, that puts Claire and Libby as the top 2 vaulters in the entire Greater Lansing Area going into next season.
Finally, Peyton Spicer competed in high jump. Even though her height wasn't her best (4'9"), she looked great and is very confident heading into the state finals on Saturday. With her performance, Peyton finished tied for 8th place.
All three of our state qualifiers (Claire, Libby, and Peyton) are competing very well and are ready for fantastic finishes at the state finals on Saturday where they will compete in the same events that they did today, where they seek All-State honors. Congratulations girls and good luck on Saturday!
