The Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to the 5 team Williamston Invitational on Saturday.  The Trojans came up just short of winning placing 2^nd with 535 points to East Lansing’s 552.  Ionia finished 3^rd with 459 followed by Williamston with 420 and Waverly placed 5^th with 201 points.

The first swimming event was the IM relay.  The meet was tightly officiated and 4 of the 8 teams were disqualified.  Owosso’s two teams turned in great swims placing 3^rd and 4^th.  In the next event the 50 fly, the Trojans took the top 2 places with Macy Irelan touching for the win followed by Britney Erazo.  In event 4 East Lansing swam well taking 1^st and 3^rd places to keep the scores close.  In the Medley relay the Trojans placed 3^rd but 2 relays were disqualified.  East Lansing took advantage placing all 3 of their relays in the top 6 places.  In the backstroke events the Trojans tried to close the point gap placing 2^nd in the 50 back was Birdie Tkaczyk and winning the 100 was Macy Irelan.  After 8 events the Trojans were down over 50 points to East Lansing and found themselves in 3^rd place with Ionia in 2nd.  The girls turned in many great swims in the final 5 events.  The team placed their 3 swimmers in the top 6 places in the 50 free and 2 swimmers in the top 5 in the 100 free.  In the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke the Trojans placed all 3 swimmers in the top 10 including Amanda Brainerd racing for the win in the 100. The final event saw Owosso face off with Ionia with both teams having 4 very fast swimmers in the 200 free relay.  Ionia got out to a lead but the Trojans reeled them in and came from behind to win by over a second.  The team was only a second and a half off of state qualifying time.  The great second half swims saw the Trojans move into second place and fall just short of catching a talented East Lansing team.    

The girls continue to improve and many swimmers turned in lifetime best swims.  The girls are starting to see the potential they have this year.  The girls will have a week of practice before having their first conference meet at Corunna on September 9^th.
