Owosso track celebrated senior night today as our Trojans took on Lake Fenton and Clio. Although Owosso was not able to come up a victory against either team (Lake Fenton 77, Owosso 58 and Clio 76, Owosso 56), I am very proud of the effort put forth by every single athlete. Senior Alaina Poggiali earned a 1st place finish in shot put, a 2nd place finish in discus (1st agaist Lake Fenton), and a 3rd place finish in pole vault. Kaitlyn Cummings (senior) had a busy and slightly unusual day. She started the day with a 3rd place overall finish in high jump (2nd against Clio), then ran in 3 different relays, finishing 1st in the 4x200 and 2nd in the 4x100 and 4x800. As a sprinter (along with sprinter teammates Hannah and Emmalee Hudecek), the 4x800 is nowhere near a comfortable distance. However, all three girls stepped up and put their team first in order to score points. It wasn't just the sprinters that went outside of their comfort zone today. The fourth member of the 4x800 relay team was distance runner Emma Johnson. That race was no problem for Emma and acted as a warm up as she prepared to run the mile and the 2 mile. Even though the 2 mile is the second to last event at a track meet, Emma's evening wasn't finished just yet. As soon as she ended her race, she had to get right back on the track and anchor the 4x400 (as the boys and girls ran the 2 mile together, she didn't have a single event or heat between her races). Again, I am very proud of the effort, toughness, and willingness of my girls to put their team first.

Other scores for the Trojans include: Libby Summerland had another great meet with 1st place finishes in pole vault, the 800, the 4x200 (with teammates Kaitlyn Cummings, Claire Agnew, and Michaela Nichols), and a 3rd place finish in the 400 (2nd to both Clio and Lake Fenton). Claire Agnew finished 1st in the 4x200, 2nd in pole vault, and 4th in the 200 (2nd to Clio and 3rd to Lake Fenton). Michaela Nichols finished 1st in the 4x200, 2nd in the 4x100, and 5th in the long jump (3rd to Lake Fenton). Keera Barnhill finished 2nd in high jump (1st to Clio). Courtney Lott finished 4th in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles (2nd to Lake Fenton and 3rd to Clio) and 4th in long jump (2nd to Lake Fenton and 3rd to Clio). Cassie Gillett finished 4th in discus (2nd to Lake Fenton) and 6th in shot put (3rd to Lake Fenton). Neveah Mishler finished 5th in the 100 (3rd to both Lake Fenton and Clio). Emma Johnson finished 4th in the 3200 (1st against Clio). Emmalee Hudecek and Hannah Hudecek both finished 2nd in the 4x100.
