Girls Varsity Track @ the Chesaning Track and Field Classic

Game Date
Apr 19, 2024

Girls' Track and Field traveled to Chesaning on Friday to compete in an invitational against 15 other teams. Even though we didn't put in a lineup to try to win the meet, we still managed to finish 4th overall. As the coach, my philosophy is that invitationals are for medals and PRs. I never feel the need to overwork my athletes in an attempt to score more points. That's what conference meets are for.

1. Fowler 94

2. Saginaw Heritage 89

3. Shepherd 77.5

4. Owosso 75

Individually, we experienced a ton of success on Friday. We were able to take first place in 4 events and took home a ton of medals. The performer of the day was Gabi Hufnagel. Gabi had a chance to really showcase her hurdle talant and improved speed this season. Gabi won the 100m hurdles, tying her PR time of 16.8 seconds. She then went on to win the 300m hurdles, cutting off more than a second from her best in the state time on Tuesday. Her 47.64 keeps her in the top stop in the state after other girls in the state improved their times yesterday and puts her exactly 1 second from our school record. On top of this, she ran the 200m dash for the first time and managed a 7th place finish (27.34).

Skotti Ball-Duley was able to keep her 800m winning streak alive as she won the event by over 3 seconds (2:29.82). She also lead her 4x800m team (with teammates Emma Crandell, Josie Jenkinson, and Onna West) to a 3rd place finish and season best 10:43.

Libby Summerland was able to secure another win in pole vault with a vault of 10', and added a 2nd place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:02.05.

Peyton Spicer jumped her way to a 3rd place high jump finish (5') and 5th place long jump finish with a PR of  14'8.75". She added a 7th place finish in discus (89').

Emma Crandell ran 5:56.74 on her way to a 6th place finish.

Onna West finished just one place behind Emma with a time a 5:58.03.

Desiree Mofield finished 7th place in shot put with a throw of 31'2".

Next Tuesday is the showdown between unbeaten Owosso and Goodrich.
