Owosso Girls' Track and Field Improves to 3-0

Game Date
Apr 16, 2024

It was senior night on Tuesday night as Owosso Girls' Track and Field hosted this year's Flint Metro League double dual meet against both Clio and Brandon. At the end of the night, our girls came out on top, winning our 8th dual meet in a row and improving to 3-0 this season. Team scores were:

Owosso 88    Brandon 45

Owosso 75    Clio 60

Clio 88           Brandon 41

Our seniors sure did represent on their special day! Libby Summerland had the performance of the day in pole vault. Not only did she set her personal record by 9 full inches, Libby's vault of 11'3" is also the highest vault in the state (division 2) right now by that same 9 inches. On top of this, she also managed to win the 100m and take second (first against Brandon since the meets were scored separately) in both the 200m and 400m.

Not to be outdone, senior Peyton Spicer also came away with 2 first place and 2 second place finishes. She won both shot put and high jump, while taking 2nd in discus and long jump.

Skotti Ball-Duley also represented on senior night by winning the 800m as well as the 4x800m relay along with teammates Josie Jenkinson, Julionna West, and Emma Crandell. Her 4x400m relay team also beat Brandon (with teammates Gabi Hufnagel, Isabel Root, and Onna West).

Senior Aria Wilson also managed to score points for the Trojans with a 3rd place finish in pole vault and 3rd place (against Clio) in the 100m hurdles.

I would also like to thank our final 2 seniors, Cassie Gillett and Kate Lee, for their dedication to the team and hard work over the years.

Our seniors were the only bright spots, however. Gabi Hufnagel has as great of a day as anyone with her massive PR and win in the 100m hurdles and her win in the 300m hurdles with a time that ranks her #1 in the state (division 2)!

Desiree Mofield had a solid day with a 2nd place finish in shot put and 3rd place finish in discus (2nd against Clio).

On top of the 4x400m relay win against Brandon, Isabel Root scored a 2nd place finish in pole vault and tied for 3rd in high jump (tied for 2nd against Clio).

It was absolutely amazing to see Josie Jenkinson out on the track in the 1600m today. After battling through so many injuries, she showed that she is ready to get back to greatness as she ran a person best, 2nd place (1st against Brandon) 1600m as well as being on the winning 4x800m relay team.

Emma Crandell battled a shoulder issue today, but still managed a 1st place finish (2nd to Clio) in the 3200, 2nd place finish against Brandon (3rd to Clio) in the 1600m, and a win in the 4x800.

Onna West had a nice PR in the 1600m today, finishing 3rd against Brandon to go along with her win in the 4x800m relay.

Mia Lentz also is on the right track coming back from injury as she improved last week's 800m time by 8 seconds and finished 3rd against both teams.

Freshman Lexi Blaha earned her first career points with a 3rd place finish in the 100m against Brandon.

Next up is the Chesaning Invite this Friday before we head to Goodrich next Tuesday for a battle of the unbeatens.
