TROJANS: 75
BRANDON HIGH SCHOOL: 62

Owosso girls' track and field opened up the Flint Metro League season with a win against Brandon. What a difference a year can make. After losing to Brandon last season 87-46, we left on Wednesday with a 75-62 victory, even with our fastest long distance runner sitting out with an injury. I couldn't be more proud of the effort all of our athletes gave and I am very excited about where we this early in the season. We had a lot of killer performances to note.

Pole vault was an absolute show on Wednesday, showcasing some of the best girls in the entire state in a meet between only two teams. Brandon's Allison Shelton, who is the #1 ranked pole vaulter in the state, won the meet today. However, Owosso's All-State athlete Claire Agnew (currently ranked #3 in the state) wasted no time in besting her school record from last season with a vault of 9'10", finishing in 2nd place. Also, finishing 3rd today (with the 4th highest vault in the state this season) was Libby Summerland with a PR vault of 9'6". Finally, just as impressive was freshman Kyle Bermudez. In her pole vaulting debut she finished 4th place with a vault of 8', ranking her in the top 21 in the state. We are very blessed to have such an amazing pole vault coach in Tony Grinnell, who is doing an amazing job with his athletes.

Outside of pole vault, other top 3 performances included:

Libby Summerland: Outside of her 3rd place finish in pole vault, Libby went on to win 3 events. She won the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes, earning 16 points all by herself.

Onna West finished 1st place in the 800 and was a part of the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relay teams that won as well.

Emma Johnson took 1st place in the 3200m run, 2nd place in the 1600m run, and was a part of the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relay teams that won as well.

Kyle Bermudez won the 100m hurdles and was a part of the 4x100 meter relay team that won as well.

Peyton Spicer finished 1st in both high jump and shot put, while also finishing 2nd in discus.

Claire Agnew not only finished 2nd in pole vault, she also finished 2nd in the 100 and was a part of the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams that won as well.

Delaina Peterson took 2nd place in shot put.

Makenna Gregory finished 3rd in both the 100 hurdles as well as the 300 hurdles.

Keera Barnhill finished 3rd place in high jump.

Courtney Lott took 3rd in long jump.
