Girls Varsity Track @ Holt "Ram Jam" Invite

Game Date
May 7, 2022

Owosso traveled to Holt today to compete in the Holt "Ram Jam" Invitational. This is a very special meet for us as well as the other 8 teams that attended. Here is a description of the occasion:

This meet is a dedication and tribute to the late Jerry Gillett, Jack Rarick, Ruth Pridgeon, and Mike Smith - four amazing educators and coaches who departed far too early from this Earth. The impact that these four individuals had on the students of Holt Public Schools (not to mention ALL of the schools associated with this meet) is truly immeasurable. You would be hard pressed to find a student or athlete at Holt Public Schools from the early 1970’s until 2014 who did not have at least one of these legendary people as a coach, a teacher, or both.

We were blessed to have Coach Gillett, Coach Rarick, Coach Pridgeon, and Coach Smith as coaches, as teachers, as colleagues, to call them friends, and to have them as a part of our family. They each had a larger than life personality, were incredibly talented at their craft, had the ability to get the most out of everyone, and (without a doubt ) four of the best laughs in history.

As Jerry Gillett is our very own boys' coach Aaron Gillett's father, it was a great honor to be able to attend and compete in this meet. Making this just as special for our girls team is that Jerry's own granddaughter, Cassie Gillett, competed for Owosso in shot put and discus. Cassie honored her grandpa today with personal best throws in shot put on her first three attempts!

From a team standpoint, we competed well today against 5 division 1 teams and 3 other division 2 teams. We ended up finishing in 7th place. Individually we had many personal best performances today as well as top 8 results (the top 8 in each event scores points for their team).

Our best results of the day came once again from pole vault. Claire Agnew went home with another win and 10' performance to go along with a nice personal best effort in the 200m dash and a 5th place finish in the 4x400m relay (with teammates Libby Summerland, Emma Johnson, and Onna West).

Libby Summerland finished 2nd in pole vault. However, more impressive was her 400m dash. She finished 3rd (just .03 seconds out of 2nd) with a personal best time of 1:01.12, just .02 seconds away from qualifying for state if she runs that time at regionals.

Rounding out the top 3 in pole vault was Kyle Bermudez with a vault of 8'0". Kyle also came away with 5th place finish in both the 100m hurdles as well as the freshman/sophomore 100m dash.

Josie Jenkinson had a nice 3rd place finish in her freshman/sophomore 1600m run.

Julionna West finished just behind Josie in 4th place in the freshman/sophomore 1600m run to go along with her role in the 5th place 4x400m relay.

Along with her part in the 4x400m relay, Emma Johnson also finished 7th in the varsity 1600m run with a season best time.

Delaina Peterson threw a personal best distance in discus today and Michaela Nichols ran a season best time in the 100m dash.
