SVSU Track Invite (Girls Results)

Game Date
Mar 22, 2023

Owosso varsity girls' track and field traveled to Saginaw Valley State University on Wednesday to compete in the SVSU Indoor Invitational against 35 other teams, 21 of which were division 1 schools. In a meet hosting over 1000 athletes, there was a ton of talent and great competition to open the season. Even though the meet was not scored, medals were given to the top 8 finishers in each event. Starting where they left off last season, all three of our returning all-state athletes earned medals today.

Leading the way was Peyton Spicer. Peyton was the high jump champion, clearing 5'1" without any misses. She then tried to tie the school record at 5'3" and just barely tapped off the bar on all three attempts. She is set to do great things again this season. She also threw the shot nearly 3 feet further than her best a year ago (30'1.75").

Claire Agnew nearly tied her school record and state runner up pole vault of 11'0, but finished 2nd at 10'6". Claire also showcased her improved speed in the 200 and 4x300 relay.

Libby Summerland didn't have her best day in pole vault, but even an off day was able to earn a 6th place finish. Libby also ran in the 200 and 4x300 relay with the fastest finishes on the team, showing that she will once again be a force in any event she competes in this season.

Even though she finished 1 place from earning a medal, freshman Emma Crandell shined in her 3200 with a time of 12:17. That finish would have been good enough for a 4th place finish in the region last season. Emma had a killer winter, running over 400 miles, averaging around 33 miles per week for the last 7 weeks before the season started. She then went on to run in both the 4x600 and 4x300 relays as well as the 400, just because she wanted to run more. I look forward to seeing how far she can climb this year and in the years to come.

Many other girls had a great start to the year and we are hoping to make some serious improvements to our 1-4 conference record last season.
