Girls Varsity Track @ Davison Twilight Classic Track and Field Invitational

Game Date
May 13, 2022

Owosso traveled to Davison to compete in the Twilight Classic on Friday. Nearly 30 schools competed a meet that lasted 8 hours. Since there were so many teams, results were broken up into 3 divisions for team scoring and medals. Owosso finished 5th out of 7 teams in division 2, but only 31.5 points out of 1st, as no team truly dominated the meet. Individually we had many great performances and took home a lot of medals.

Kyle Bermudez continued to impress with a pair of amazing performances. First, Kyle added 6 more inches to her pole vault PR, finishing at 9'0", just 3 inches from the state qualifying mark if she can do it next Friday at regionals. That vault also earned her a 5th place finish. Right after she finished with pole vault, Kyle took right to the track in the 100m hurdles where she earned a 1st place finish! Most impressive was that she cut another .32 off her time, making it a .88 second drop in the last 2 meets, taking her from 15th in the region to 4th!

Libby Summerland also had a huge day. Libby matched her PR in pole vault of 10', earning a 1st place finish in division 2 and 2nd place overall. She then went on to win the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.05, .05 seconds under the state qualifying mark of 1:01.1. Now she just has to repeat her performance next Friday to punch her ticket. Finally, Libby finished 4th in the 200m dash, earning her 3rd medal of the day.

Peyton Spicer took home a pair of medals with a 2nd place finish in high jump and 3rd place finish in discus. While her 5'0" finish was 2" from her best jump this season, it was still the highest jump of the day, only losing based on misses at the previous height. Peyton is still set up as the top seed in high jump and 5th seed in discus at regionals.

Even without her season best vault, Claire Agnew was still able to come away with a 3rd place finish in pole vault, only losing based on misses at the previous height. Claire also earned a 4th place medal in the 400m dash.

Finally, Josie Jenkinson earned a 4th place medal in the 3200m run. After an injury plagued season, it was great to see Josie run 2 miles again, and impressive that she was still fast enough to finish so well!

Come out and support the girls next Friday in Williamston for the regional finals meet.
