Flint Metro League XC Jamboree #1

Game Date
Sep 7, 2022

Owosso cross country raced in the first of three Jamborees on Wednesday at the Genesee County Fairgrounds. Led by Libby Summerland's stellar 4th place individual finish, Owosso girls were able to finish 3rd overall (out of 12) behind two very good teams.

Team results:

1. Goodrich 47

2. Fenton 58

3. Owosso 92

The score doesn't fully paint the picture of the day though. First of all, Josie Jenkinson was able to make her debut today after dealing with an injury from last winter. After such a long absence, we didn't really know how the meet would go. However, not only was Josie able to finish the race, she came in 17th place overall and gave the team the boost we've been waiting for. Onna West had another great race, finishing in 11th place. Claire Agnew also continued to impress with a 19th place finish. These 3 athletes, along with Libby Summerland are all currently in position (if they can hold their places in the next two jamborees) to finish with all-conference honors. 4 out of the top 19 runners in a race with 12 teams is quite the accomplishment. Unfortunately, we should have had 5 runners in the top 20. Emma Crandell came down with an injury during the race and wasn't able to finish where she normally does just ahead of Claire. We are hoping that it proves to be minor and she can return quickly and regain her place in the next jamboree.

I believe that with a fully healthy team, we have a chance to do very big things this season. We have many talented girls and each still has the potential to improve a lot throughout the season. We are back in action on Saturday at the Bath Invite.
