Greater Lansing Cross Country Championship (Girls' Results)

Game Date
Oct 14, 2023

Things are really starting to come together for Owosso girls' cross country. We traveled to Ledge Meadows Golf Course in Grand Ledge on Saturday to complete in the Greater Lansing Championship. Conditions were less than ideal as it rained the whole morning, temperatures were in the high 40's and the course was very soft and saturated. However, despite the uncontrolables, our girls really showed up, finishing 3rd out of 37 teams behind powerhouse Okemos and DeWitt. We came in one spot ahead of St. Johns as well, which is the first time we have beat them this season. With DeWitt and St. Johns in our region, Friday the 27th looks to be an exciting matchup for a regional championship!

Okemos 55

DeWitt 113

Owosso 130

St. Johns 140

etc.

With the conditions the way they were, very few athletes were able to earn a season or personal best time. However, that's just what Emma Crandell did. She had a fantastic showing and managed to break 20:00 for the first time in her career with a 19:59 finish. After crossing the first mile in 21st place, she slowly worked her way all the way up to a 12th place finish. Emma is now the third girl on the team to break 20:00. Libby Summerland was the next to cross the line for the Trojans with a 20th place finish in 20:11. Josie Jenkinson finished just 3 seconds later (20:14) in 24th place. All three girls earned plaques for being in the top 30. Onna West was just 4 seconds from her season best time, setting her up to be the next girl under 20:00 on a nicer day. Onna finished in 33rd place with a time of 20:39. Natalie Summerland was the next finisher with a time of 21:09 in 41st place. Skotti Ball-Duley came through in 65th place with a time of 21:57. As there were 219 runners who finished the race, our girls definitely represented today.

We are down to just a few more races on the season. Next Wednesday we will compete in the FML Championship. Then we will run in the Shiawassee County Championship next Saturday before competing in regionals 6 days later. If all goes to plan, the state finals will be held on November 4th.
