Girls' Cross Country Regionals @ DeWitt

Game Date
Oct 27, 2023

Owosso competed in the regional finals on Friday afternoon in DeWitt, finishing in 3rd place and earning a chance to run as a team in the state finals next Saturday at the Michigan International Speedway. Entering the day both St. Johns and DeWitt were seeded over 10 points ahead of us. We had narrowed the gap from early in the year where it had been over 40 at one point. We nearly finished 2nd though as DeWitt only finished 1 point in front of us. St. Johns had a fantastic day though and beat us by 18.

1. St. Johns 52

2. DeWitt 69

3. Owosso 70

4. Williamston 136

5. Haslett 143

etc. (15 total teams)

Individually, we were able to finish with 3 girls in the top 15 (which would have qualified for state if we hadn't as a team). On a day where 1 single girl out of everyone who competed ran a personal or season best time (it was a really muddy course), places were all that mattered and good times went out the window. Josie Jenkinson lead all Owosso athletes today with a 6th place finish (20:01). Libby Summerland came in next for the Trojans with a 11th place finish in 20:17. After taking a fall early in the race and running through knee pain as a result, Emma Crandell was still able to finish in 12th place, just 11 seconds behind Libby. Our 4th girl in the top 20 was Julionna West who came in 19th with a time of 20:53. Natalie Summerland came in 22nd (6 places ahead of where she was projected) with a time of 21:22. Skotti Ball-Duley finished in 36th with a time of 22:22.

We now have one week to prepare for the state finals where our goal is to finish in the top 10 as we are currently seeded 15th. Our girls will run at 1:30, with Simon Erfourth running for our boys team at 2:50.
